TIBETAN MANDALA

This is a 2 part workshop

(Two 3-Hour Sessions)

Tibetan Mandala:

Introduction to the Art of Mandala as Meditation
and the Hidden Symbolism of Tibetan Sacred Art

Mandala means literally "that which extracts the essence."   In Tibetan Buddhism there are many different types of mandalas. Each mandala represents the architectural  layout of the entire palace of a deity. There are mufti-layered symbolic images throughout the 'palace,' where iconography, placement, and color all have significance.

In this workshop Lobsang will discuss the map of the path to inner peace and compassion hidden in the mandala. Participants explore the entire map of the mandala through the measuring, drawing, painting and creation of their individual mandala, the Buddha of Compassion. This is a very simple introduction to an ancient invocational art form.

The map hidden in the mandala is not of external paths, rather the map is an internal path of consciousness.

No artistic experience necessary.  In this 2-part workshop participants will have the opportunities to discover and deepen their own meditative art.

What Is Being Said About Lobsang's Workshops

"It was wonderful to spend time with Lobsang Tsultrim (Lortsel Gyamtso) at the Thangka Workshop.  I really enjoyed learning the process which was very meditative. It gave me some insight in such an extraordinary culture and

artistic approach to painting."

"As an artist, I found this workshop very enlightening to my own creative process.

I did not know much about the Tibetan people and although I am not a "Buddhist",

I always loved and appreciated paintings of the Buddha. The processes I learned in

this workshop can be applied to many aspects of my own art.

I have a deeper appreciation and understanding of the Thangka.

Thank you for sharing this ancient and absolutely beautiful art form. Thank you!"

"Having little or no artistic experience, this workshop and meeting artists like Lobsang

and Menlo Macfarlane have been instrumental in helping me tap my creativity.

I found the experience of receiving personal instruction from a Tibetan monk

who is a sacred artist very profound. I will never forget this experience and looking at my own Buddha will always remind me of meeting Lobsang."
